Mothers! Ugh!

I'm sure the appropriate reaction to finding out your mother has breast cancer is not to roll your eyes... And yet? This is my reaction.

Don't get me wrong - the seriousness of this is not lost on me. But MY GOD, why would you wait until after you've had surgery, and after you've begun radiation to tell me?

Oh no wait, she didn't tell me. She told her sister, my aunt, who dragged my phone number out of her and she told me... Can my mother be any more Asian?*

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go bash my head against the wall.

* I can hear her right now in my head! "No no! Don't bother her. She never calls her mother anyway. She doesn't care!"**

** After I'm done bashing my head against the wall, let's go smack my mother around a little bit.

My parents hide major surgery and life threatening heart attacks from me. They dont like to 'worry' me becuase I've got 'important' stuff to do. Huh? Give me the worry - that life! Me important? parents can be insufferably cute sometimes.

I'm sorry, but your parents are completely insane. And I have no cure to offer them. Or you. I don't think that head banging will help much, but sure, give it a shot.

I'm shaking my head vigorously as I read this post, the "Wendy" comment, and as I write my own.

If either of my folks pulled something like that they'd have two sons calling them up and emptying their lexicons of curses on said parent (after we'd inquired about parent's health, of course).

yep mum's are mental!

quick" show_email="0"$>$>:

I agree. I'm getting a crew together to come round and smack your cancerous mother around a little bit. Fucking bitch.

(Seriously, hope stuff is good).

geeky" show_email="0"$>$>:

my mom does that too.. she was having chest pains and didn't want to "bother" any of us by telling us. i guess she thought we wouldn't be "bothered" if we found her laying cold and lifeless on the floor after a heart attack! sheesh, moms.

that being said, i'm sorry to hear your mom has cancer, and i wish her all the best of luck in beating it!

Errol" show_email="0"$>$>:

Well, you're not alone. My dad was the same way and so was my mom. And with my own kids...I don't know if I'd tell them all that's going on since their own mother is a Drama Queen.

Parents is weird.

My uncle had prostate cancer but didn't think he'd survive having it treated. He didn't tell anyone, at all, that he was having his prostate removed until the day it was done. He thought he'd die on the operating table so when he woke up, he thought to himself, "Shit...I guess I better call the wife and get a ride home."

It's not just moms---people are all fucking nuts.

CK" show_email="0"$>$>:

So, it hasn't been quite that dramatic for me, but I'm typically out of the loop on everything too. It's not that your mother is Asian, it's that she's a mother.

golfwidow" show_email="0"$>$>:

I'm sorry, girl. If you are scared or need someone to talk to, been there and done that (except the bit where your mother didn't tell you till after - my mother loves the guilt, but not QUITE that much).

Tasty" show_email="0"$>$>:

Hope your mom recovers quickly. I think it's a twisted form of motherly protection. My mom is a bit the same, but my grandma tells all and then some, so I don't usually have to worry about not knowing cause when mom neglects to mention something grandma will.

Then I get to tell mom off for it - so I feel like the mom! It's good when kids can get some back... erm.. not that I was told off alot as a kid - I'm a good girl, I am! (heh like how I made that all about me?) :D

Broad" show_email="0"$>$>:

Sorry to hear about that. Hope she's Ok.

vangie" show_email="0"$>$>:

hmm, my mother must not be asian... she gets a headache and calls 911... twice! and makes sure all the 'tives know about it.
